Great Run Cut Short at Pocono
On June 7th, Matt and the Ken Schrader racing team competed at the Pocono Raceway, otherwise known as the “Tricky Triangle”. After qualifying in the 8th position, Tifft quickly moved up through the field in the ARCA 200. While running 3rd, a pit strategy call by crew chief Donnie Richeson moved Tifft into the 2nd position behind race leader, and eventual winner, Kyle Larson.
However, after a late debris caution with just 19 laps to go, the KSR team brought the #52 Federated Auto Parts down pit road for two tires and a splash of gas. Restarting 3rd, mayhem ensued. The 88 car, who led the car to green, was stuck in 4th gear on the restart. Within seconds, Tifft found himself four, even five-wide down the Pocono front straightaway headed into turn 1. Trapped in the middle three-wide headed into turn 1, the 25 car came down and made contact with Tifft, resulting in both cars spinning and hitting the SAFER barrier wall in the middle of turn 1. Tifft was able to return to competition 5 laps down, trying to pick up valuable owners’ points, but the car could not return to a competitive state.
Next race is at Sonoma Raceway in California, where Tifft will return to NASCAR K&N Pro Series competition in the West division at the famed road course in the Napa Valley.
