Matt Tifft Returns To ARCA Competition Upbeat
MILLVILLE, New Jersey (July 24, 2013) – – After a two-month hiatus, NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKPSE) driver Matt Tifft will return to ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards competition this weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) for the running of the Barbera’s Autoland 150 presented by Driven Racing Oil.
Since producing an impressive fifth-place outing in his No. 89 DOC 360 Chevrolet Impala at Toledo Speedway in a second Win-Tron Racing entry, Tifft, the 17-year old teenager, has become a weekly factor on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series tour including a serious threat to win in their most recent outing at Columbus Motor Speedway.
But, while the finish was ruptured after becoming a victim in another a late race restart, Tifft is hoping he can lean on his second start of the season in ARCA to not only produce another strong run, but give him additional momentum to take when he rejoins the NASCAR K&N Pro Series campaign next week at Iowa Speedway.
“I’m looking forward to New Jersey Motorsports Park this weekend,” said Tifft, a native of Hinckley, Ohio. “It’s going to be my first road-course race in a stock car, but I feel I’m more than ready for the challenge. I’m using this race to get me some road course experience for the upcoming road races on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series tour.”
He added, “The car is a little different, but nothing beats actual experience. The competition in the K&N Pro Series is tough, just like it is in ARCA. But, here in ARCA, I’m not running for anything more than a strong finish. I feel that if I can adapt to the track, talk with some of the more experienced guys and stay on course, we should have a good outcome on Sunday.”
One of the drivers that Tifft plans to confer with is his own Win-Tron Racing teammate Mason Mingus. The current SCOTT Rookie contender produced a respectable top-10 run after starting deep in the field last July. Not only are the two teenagers promising drivers, but they have also developed a friendship.
“Mason is a great teammate,” Tifft added. “When he’s not racing ARCA and if I don’t have a K&N race, we usually can be found together in a late model race. It’s nice to have someone like him to talk to on a variety of different topics. He has some road course experience in an ARCA car, so I know his input is important.”
Recently, Tifft and Mingus competed in the Swiss Colony Howie Lettow Memorial 150 presented by RaceTeamGear.com at the famed Milwaukee (Wisc.) Mile on the ARCA Midwest Tour. While Mingus didn’t have the night he was hoping for, Tifft, however, managed a solid top-15 outing in the darkness-shortened event that included an array of some of the best short track racers in the country, not to mention a slew of NASCAR stars.
“Our performances at The Milwaukee Mile and Columbus Motor Speedway have given me a lot of confidence,” Tifft added. “Racing is a sport that is not only dominated by fast cars, but also motivation and momentum. I have all three right now and I think if I can stay focused, I’ll have another reason to smile on Sunday afternoon.”
The Barbera’s Autoland 150 presented by Driven Racing (67 laps / 150 miles) is the 12th of 21 events on the 2013 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule.
