Matt Tifft; Win-Tron Racing Ready For Virginia International Raceway Debut
ALTON, Virginia (August 22, 2013) – –There are a lot of unknowns, yet a lot of excitement for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) tour this weekend as they head to Virginia International Raceway for Saturday afternoon’s running of the Biscuitville 125.
For rookie Matt Tifft and his Win-Tron Racing team, they see Saturday’s road-course challenge as an opportunity for them to shine above the rest and take their No. 89 DOC 360 Chevrolet Impala to victory lane.
Of course, the Mooresville, North Carolina-based team knows that the task at hand won’t be a walk in the park, but the devotion and core of Tifft’s ability have the Mike Chaffee-led organization feeling that they have the ability to shine in a race where potentially anything can happen.
A good run would be beneficial for the Hinckley, Ohio native this weekend. In the most recent NKNPSE contest at Iowa Speedway, the DOC 360 Racing team once again flexed their muscle, but were unable to overcome an engine failure that resulted in a 24th place finish.
With a two-week break hiatus for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East tour, Tifft was adamant about being behind the wheel of a racecar. So, while he took one weekend to enjoy one of the final weeks of summer, last weekend, Tifft headed out west and participated in the NAPA Auto Parts 150 presented by Toyota at Evergreen Speedway. After qualifying, eighth, Tifft had a successful NASCAR K&N Pro Series West debut finishing ninth in his No. 89 DOC 360 Chevrolet Impala.
Now, back among his eastern seaboard comrades, Tifft shifts his focus back to his main job at-hand for Win-Tron Racing.
While the Biscuitville 125 is an inaugural event and Tifft has yet to even have seen the 2.25-mile road course, he does have some advantage over the rest of his peers, road course experience.
In July, Tifft competed in the Barbera’s Autoland 150 presented by Driven Racing at New Jersey Motorsports Park in a second entry for Win-Tron Racing. After practicing 10th and 11thquickest respectively, Tifft qualified 12th and appeared to be on his way to back-to-back top-10 finishes in just his second career start, but a flat tire in the closing laps of the race deflated the opportunity to do so, resulting in a 15th place finish.
Still, the Buckeye native is hopeful that the experience he achieved at NJMP will prove to be some benefit.
“I’m really anxious to get to VIR this weekend,” said Win-Tron Racing development driver Tifft. “I’m all for challenges, especially, new ones, so I’m looking forward to what’s at stake this weekend.”
He added, “Obviously, our goal is to finish inside the top-10 on Saturday afternoon, but I need to learn the track as much as I can in practice, so I can apply that towards qualifying and the race. For the race, it’s all about keeping our four tires on the pavement and hope when the finish is near, we’ll have a shot at a strong finish.”
For Win-Tron Racing, owned by former racers Kevin Cywinski and Nate Thiesse, the expansion to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East tour opens the door for the team to continue and enhance their on-track product. The team will work vigorously with Tifft as part of their driver development platform. Currently, the team is second in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards championship chase with driver Mason Mingus.
“Matt impressed us a bunch at New Jersey Motorsports Park, so we’re eager to see how he’ll perform this weekend at VIR,” said Thiesse. “Despite some hiccups, Matt has done a nice job for us and with a little luck, I think we have the ability to notch a top-five, if not a podium finish in the Biscuitville 125.”
The Biscuitville 125 (123.75 miles / 55 laps) is set for Saturday, August 24. The 55-lap feature will lift off shortly after 4:30 p.m. (Central). The race will be tape-delayed on FOX Sports 1 with soon-to-be announced air date.
