• Matt started Saturday’s 125-lap event at Elko Speedway in the 8th position after qualifying 7th.
• Tifft finished the race in 5th place, marking his 2nd top-5 finish in the ASA Midwest Tour.
• Matt increased his lead in the Rookie of the Year point standings and sits in fifth spot in the overall standings heading to Iowa Speedway September 14th.
Matt started the race in the 8th position and fell back to the 12th position early as the car was bottoming out and was set up for longer runs. At the 75 lap break Matt was in 11th position, however the car had lost power steering. The Iron Eagle Team went to work in the 10 minute break, changed out the power steering fluid and making a few adjustments.
Restarting in 11th position, Tifft began to methodically work the outside groove gaining positions up to 6th place with one lap to go. On the final lap Matt made a move to the inside of points leader Jonathan Eilen to take 5th place as the race ended.
Matt’s 5th place finish marks his second Top 5 of the year. The Ohio native moved up to 5th spot in the ASA Midwest Tour point standings and increased his lead in the Rookie of the Year points battle to 74 points.
Matt’s Thoughts After the Race: “I really wanted to thank the Iron Eagle Team for giving me a car that was very competitive and would let me work to get toward the front at the end of the race. We struggled a bit early as the car bottomed out with low tire pressures. Also, when the power steering went away it was hard to run a consistent line. But we fixed it at the race break and then we were good to go for the finish. I think the team is really coming together and I am really looking forward to racing at Iowa Speedway next month. Tim (Schendel, Iron Eagle racing’s co-owner) had always run really well there and I know they have a great setup for that track.”
